Getting Started: Initial Information and Consultations
If matching the wood finish with an existing wood floor is required, we order stains from professional stain-mixing companies and take great care to achieve a close match. However, we cannot guarantee a perfect match.
In some cases, floors may be made using technologies that are not available to us, such as UV ray bleaching, or certain wood species may not be accessible (e.g., European white oak). Alternatives, such as North American white oak, may yield a slightly different finish. Even using wood from the same species and forest may not guarantee an exact match.
Step finishing and finish matching for the most common finishes are included in the price. Customers are encouraged to consult with Mrail regarding the finish before finalizing their floor purchase.
Upon request to match wood finish, Mrail will do our due diligence to provide the best match, but cannot guarantee an identical replicate. Finish matching is free of charge, unless the requested finish requires special techniques (e.g. Solid paint, Antique, Glazing…)
The metal portions of stairs that remain visible are typically spray-painted, depending on the stair design, with color choices available upon customer request.
For certain types of stairs, the metal may also be custom-finished in stainless steel, black oxide, wood veneer, or anodized aluminum, offering a variety of aesthetic options.
If steps are “touching” the side wall, the side wall must be finished straight and plumb to achieve uniform and minimal gaps between the steps and wall. Walls should be constructed properly and we will not scribe the steps to fit into wall imperfections.
Typically, steps are made from engineered hardwood, as it is the most suitable material for interior stairs. However, other materials can also be used. Our technology enables us to create simple floating box steps in stone, Corian, concrete or similar materials for a unique and versatile design.
